Terms and Conditions

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Welcome to HashSpace, an invitation-only online community for Hash House Harriers. HashSpace is run by volunteer hashers, is non-commercial, and is paid for by donations. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are the rules for using hashspace.com and the HashSpace mobile app (together, “HashSpace”). By creating an account or using HashSpace, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use HashSpace.

Hashing has a long tradition of irreverence, and HashSpace is not here to change that. These Terms exist so the site stays a good place for hashers, and so that the volunteers who run it are not left holding the bag.

1. Who can join

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Membership is by invitation. Invitations come from existing members, or by request if you were a member of an earlier HashSpace site. Each person may have one account.
  • Use your own invitation only for yourself, and invite only people you know from hashing and believe will follow these Terms. Members are responsible for the people they invite.
  • You may not join if we have previously removed you from HashSpace.

2. Your account

  • Give an accurate email address and keep it current; we use it for password resets and important notices.
  • You may use your hash name rather than your legal name, but do not impersonate anyone else, a kennel or an organization.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has access to it.
  • You can delete your account at any time from your account settings.

3. Community rules

Hash humor, hash names, down-downs and songs are all welcome. The following are not:

  • Harassment and hate: threats, bullying, stalking, sexual harassment, or attacks on people because of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Outing people: posting someone’s home address, workplace, phone number, legal name or other private details when they have not made them known, or posting content that reveals someone was at a hash when they would reasonably expect it to stay private. What happens on trail stays on trail unless the people involved are happy for it not to.
  • Intimate or sexual images of anyone without their consent, and any sexual content involving minors (which we report to the authorities).
  • Illegal content or activity, including promoting drunk driving or encouraging anyone to drink who is underage or does not want to.
  • Spam and scams: unsolicited advertising, chain messages, phishing, fake events or fundraising that is not what it claims to be. Members may share hash-related events, kennel merchandise and trips, within reason.
  • Infringing content: material you do not have the right to post, such as other people’s photos, music or articles.
  • Misusing the site: trying to get into accounts or areas you are not allowed in, scraping or harvesting members’ information, collecting email addresses, introducing malware, overloading the site, or getting around a block or ban.

Photos of other people. Hash photos are part of the fun, but if someone asks you to remove a photo of them or untag them, please do so. If you cannot reach agreement, report it to us.

Groups. Group owners and moderators may set extra rules for their groups and moderate content there, as long as they follow these Terms too.

4. Your content

  • You own what you post. By posting it, you give HashSpace a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, format and distribute it on HashSpace, solely to run and promote the site, to the audience you choose. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content others have already shared or commented on, copies kept in backups for a limited time, and anything we must keep by law.
  • You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it, including permission from people who clearly appear in your photos and videos where that is needed.
  • We do not review everything posted and are not responsible for members’ content. Opinions on HashSpace are those of the members who post them.
  • We may remove or limit any content that we believe breaks these Terms or puts the site or its members at risk.

5. Events and hashing in real life

  • Hashes, runs, trips and other events listed on HashSpace are organized by independent kennels and members, not by HashSpace. We do not check, endorse or supervise them, and we are not responsible for what happens at them.
  • Hashing involves running or walking over unfamiliar terrain, often in poor conditions, and frequently involves alcohol. Taking part is voluntary and at your own risk. Know your limits, look after each other, and never drink and drive.
  • Any payment, registration fee or refund for an event is between you and its organizer.
  • Event organizers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings and for following the law, including any permits, insurance and venue rules.

6. Reporting problems

Use the report option on any post, comment or profile, or email us. We review reports as volunteers and in our own judgment, and we may not be able to respond to every report individually.

7. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on HashSpace infringes your copyright, email us at the address below with: your contact details; a description of the work; a link to the content; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. We will remove infringing content and close the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send us a counter-notice.

8. Donations

  • HashSpace is free to use. Donations are voluntary and go toward the costs of running the site, such as hosting, storage and software.
  • Donations are not payment for any service, do not entitle you to special treatment, and are non-refundable except in cases of a payment error.
  • Unless we tell you otherwise in writing, donations are not tax-deductible.
  • Payments are processed by PayPal or Venmo under their own terms.

9. The mobile app

The HashSpace mobile app gives you access to the same community and is covered by these Terms. Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and are not responsible for HashSpace or its content, but they may enforce these Terms as third-party beneficiaries where their app store rules require it. You must also follow the terms of the app store you got the app from.

10. Ending your membership

You can leave at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or remove an account, with or without notice, if we believe it breaks these Terms, has been inactive for a long time, or puts HashSpace or its members at risk. Sections 4 (the parts that survive), 5, and 11 to 15 continue to apply after your account ends.

11. HashSpace is provided “as is”

HashSpace is run by volunteers in their spare time. We do our best, but we provide HashSpace “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of HashSpace at any time. Please keep your own copies of anything important to you.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, HashSpace and its volunteers, administrators and moderators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content or goodwill, arising out of or relating to HashSpace, members’ content or conduct, or any event listed on HashSpace, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to HashSpace is limited to the greater of the amount you donated to HashSpace in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

13. Indemnity

If your content, your use of HashSpace or your breach of these Terms leads to a claim against HashSpace or its volunteers, you agree to cover the resulting losses and reasonable costs, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

14. Disputes

If you have a problem with HashSpace, please email us first; most things can be sorted out informally. These Terms are governed by the laws of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled by the state or federal courts located there. If you live in a country whose laws give you the right to bring claims in your local courts or under your local consumer laws, nothing in these Terms takes that away.

15. General

  • These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and HashSpace about using the site.
  • If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • If we do not enforce part of these Terms right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your account or these Terms to anyone else. We may transfer them if HashSpace is handed over to new volunteers or an organization.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as HashSpace changes. We will change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will post a notice on the site or email members. If you keep using HashSpace after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
